Know what we want to do in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. Thought we would do Sitka on our own, without doing an excursion. What things should we see and do there? Good places for lunch? Or would it be better to do one of the excursions?
You don't really need the book. Get their visitor guide www.sitka.org Very easy walking city, consider Sitka Heritage Park and the level loop totem trail- purchase the cheap guide book as it explains the poles and enhances the walk. If you are going late August- salmon will be running and eagles will be see BUT always look up anyway. Continue up the hill to the Raptor Center- injured birds of prey that is worthy of your admission. Walk back toward town- and stop in the museums- sheldon and St, Michaels Russian Church ($2 fee) if you have the interest. Lunch is good at the bowling ally - Lane 7- excellent shakes!!!
