Hi - We are going on the Carnival Spirit cruise Vancouver to Seward on 7-17-02. We are learning alot from your messages on things to do and the shore excursions - booking privately instead of thru the ship for lots of $ savings!! Any info on all this would be greatly appreciated. My husband is a "fly fishing nut" and he wants to go on a day or at least a few hours of fishing for salmon so any suggestions on the best tour for this, also which port is the best for fishing. So excited we can't stand it!! Thanks for any info. Shanon
What are your plans after arriving in Seward? There are some excellent fly fishing opportunities on the Kenai Peninsula as well as right in Resurrection Bay (where Seward is located.) Mid July might be a little early for the main run of Silver (Coho) salmon in Resurrection Bay, but there may be some, or some Red (Sockeye) salmon in the river systems on the peninsula, too. Not salmon, but how about fly fishing for 5+# Rainbows in the Kenai River? But for all these you'll probably need a day or two after the cruise ends, and a car. But you should check in Seward on arrival for recommendations from some of the local guides and charter services.
