Default Shore excursions

I'm a single cruiser (hubby doesn't travel well) and want to take some shore excursions. Are there like-minded travelers who want to do tours? I've helicoptered into the Grand Canyon, SUVs into the desert, all the Niagara Falls schtick and bus tours to hell and back. oh, maybe it just seemed like hell . I'll also be emailing a "journal"and photos about my trip to my university (hoping to get some credit for having fun!), so I'm quite interested in more historical sorts of things--I'm not real outdoorsy, but I can hike a bit. Any suggestions?

We're planning on being in Alaska in late Aug. with the Cruisemates buddie cruise on Celebrity Infinity and kind of leaning towards a copter ride out to a glacier, how does that sound? There are so many good ones, all expensive though, so I too am trying to narrow some down.

Would be interested in hearing what you decide to do where, I think I get more confused the more I read about them :-)

What are your ports and when are you going??? I second- the best of the best if a glacier helicopter landing. My prefered co is Coastal and the cheapest as well. Great personal tours. Historical is significant in Skagway- be sure to get to the Park Service Visitor center- located at Broadway and Second. Free walking tours, movie, museum, ranger talks. Then take the White Pass RR for history and scenery. Ketchikan is loaded with native history, pick up a walking tour map at the dock visitor center and head to Totem Heritage Museum, small interesting museum, consider a Sourdough combo tour to Saxman Village and Totem Bight. Loads of stuff to do, look over a shore excursion list- RCI has one on line.
