We have an opportunity for an Alaska cruise in May. I know this isn't the warmest time but what are the chances it will be okay? I know that one can never really tell but would love to hear from some that have cruised at that time. I really want to go, and that is the only time we can this year, but hate to be frozen and damp all the time. Hope I am worrying too much about nothing.
Expect temperature to average from a low of 38 deg F to a high of 58 Deg F. Obviously, the early part of May will likely be colder than the latter part of May. Also, expect rain about 50% of the time. Is this "cast in concrete?" Obviously not! But these are the averages from records maintained by official sources. Might you have better weather? Yep! Might you have worse weather? Yep! But why worry about things you can't control. JUST DO IT!
We have made four trips to Alaska--two of them in May. If you are looking for glaciers,
beautiful snow covered mountains, May is the time to go. Not too many tourists at that
time, but some great scenery. We like May so much, we are going again this May.
Don't worry about the weather--you can't control it. Just take some warm clotthes, rain
gear and ENJOY. In fairness, May is not the best time for the interior, since many areas
are not yet open..
I have been to Alaska mid May, great time to go, be prepared for the weather. (much better than mid Sept). However it is no longer a slow time. All ships are sailing earlier with the extended season now.
