travel insurance

We have cruised many times and never took out the insurance.Our final payment is due this week ,and for some reason I am thinking that I should take it out. They want $199.00 per person. Everyone on these boards have always helped so.....What do you do about taking out the insurance? Thanks

My opinion only- I never get insurance.

I personally get insurance, but I know someone who didnt and wish they had. She was getting into a boat, ( I think it was for an excursion) and she fell and twisted her ankle and leg so badly that she had to be carried back to the ship and then at the next port stay at the hospital for a couple days and pay for the different flight back home. This girl, because she didnt take out insurnce is now looking at a few thousand dollar bill when it would have cost her $200 for the insurance. I think better safe than sorry but thats just my opinion.

$200 seems high, We just booked a cruise, total cost $2500Cdn, insurance cost for both of us $150Cdn

Travel insurance is based on total cost and age. You can add more to it as extra coverage but $200 p/p does seem high.

I always take out the travel insurance, just too many things that could happen. Have used CSA in the past, worth checking them out as well as Travel Guard that Y2C mentioned:

I have heard that if you were to get injured and had to be helicoptered to a hospital, that it costs lots of money and that our regular health insurance will not cover something like that, the travel insurance will pick that kind of thing up. Just make sure to check all the different policies and make sure you know what you are buying.

Sorry I made a mistake it is $199.00 for two of us. Thanks for the posts...and I think we will spend the money and that way we won't need it . You know the way it works,if you carry the umbrella it never rains.Thanks again ,,,,,Shelley

I am glad we took out travel insurance. Paid final payment on Alaska cruisetour in February and my sister, who was also going, was diagnosed with cancer and is now facing treatment. Had to cancel cruisetour. Because it was under the 45 day limit Princes will only refund 50%, however because we have insurance we will get back almost everything. Still dealing with the paper work at this time. ALWAYS BUY INSURANCE WHEN SPENDING THIS MUCH MONEY, NEVER CAN TELL WHAT WILL HAPPEN!!
