My husband and I will be doing our first ever cruise in July (Sea Princess to Alaska, 13-17) so naturally, I've been spending hours checking out websites, cruise forums like this one and reading books on Alaska.
I just wanted to share a great discovery with people who are interested in doing a helicopter/dog sledding excursion in Juneau: Bob Kiling, "farm boy from Kansas, former CPA with Arthur Young & Co. and now dog musher in Juneau", is offering extremely good value-for-money excursions this cruising season. Very briefly, his price is $268 but he lets you spend more time on the glacier in his rustic dog camp after the sledding, which others don't. He's keen to get more people signed up, not just cruise folk likeourselves, but also independent travellers who can afford to hang around if the weather isn't good one day.
Please check out his web site: http://www.alaskadogsledrides.com. You will find e-mail contacts there too.
I have already booked our excursion for July 15. Bob says that they are in the midst of a record-breaking dry and cool spring and if this kind of weather continues, there will be less risk of cancellations in Juneau.
Happy cruising everyone!
