Will be in Alaska starting 6/28- 7/12. What will the best insect repelant to keep those mosquitos away? Thanks
Unless you are going into Denali Park, it is unlikely you will encounter them, I have never had a problem on inside passage ports and alway hike 3+ miles in each. BUT I almost got carried away at Wonder Lake, used bug net and deet.
Just got back from Mercury on the 16th...only time we were aware of any bugs was on top of Mt. Roberts (Juneau). By the way, it was beautiful up there - we wished we had saved more time to walk around the trails up there!
We also heard there were a lot of mosquitoes around Taku Lodge (where they have the salmon cook-out)....our friends said this was a great excursion in spite of the bugs!
Never had any reason to use bug repellant. I'm from the South though and used to them all around!!!
We encountered our fair share of mosquitoes at Thunderbird Falls and in the Interior (Denali/Fairbanks). I used Avon Skin So Soft - sun block/moisturizer/repellent and it worked great for me -- not so for my husband. After the first experience at Thunderbird Falls he never forgot his Off again, which worked fine for him.
