We are going to Alaska on 8/12 and can't decide between 2 tours in Ketchikan. One is Back Country Jeep and Canoe Safari and the other is Float Plane trip to Traders Cove. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
No contest for me- definately bear viewing especially if you aren't going interior as this will be your only tour opportunity for black bears. I have gone with both Taquan and Island wings- do consider independent booking- sometimes significant savings.
My husband and I took the Back Country Jeep Tour. It is a long ride to the office, then a bus ride to the canoes where we crossed the lake and had a salmon snack then a walk through the forest. Afterwards our group traded with the first group who took the Jeep tour and proceeded through old logging trails. It was fun but a bit overpriced. Also of the four people in the Jeep only two get to drive; one up the mountain and one down the mountain.
Just got back from Ketchikan and I booked a tour at the pier that was a bus that turned into a boat and got a great overview. If I had to do it again, I would go to the visitors center and take the walking tour of town. It's the best way to see things at your own pace and get great totem pole shots. We originally booked the jeep/canoe tour and canceled it prior to sailing.
