Military Uniform for Formal Evenings?

My husband and I are taking a cruise to Alaska at the end of this month. We are both Army officers and I am wondering if it would be appropriate for my husband to wear his military dress uniform instead of a tux or suit for the formal evenings on board. Thanks for any advice!

Yes, your military dress uniform most certainly is appropriate for formal nights. The appropriate uniform is, of course, the "mess dress" or "dinner dress" uniform (as opposed to the "service dress" or "full dress" uniforms) since the formal evenings are "black tie" functions.

During my 12 years in the Marine Corps I always wore my uniform. Normally in the Caribbean it was dress blues the first formal night, then white the second formal. I always felt special and proud, so by all means wear it.
You might find that the crew will be curious and ask questions.
I miss wearing my blues.....a Tux just doesn't cut it.
By the way, my ex was in the Army so when we walked into the Capt. cocktail party boy did we ever stand out !
Wear them with pride and strutt your stuff!
