Default Dates for Inside Passage

Hello,

Looking for opinions on when to take an inside passage cruise Vancouver to Vancouver.

We are looking at July 21, Aug 21 or Aug 28. Which do you think is best? Is another date better?

Thanks!!

My husband and I took the inside passage sailing on 5/20/02. There is usually not as much rainfall in Alaska in May as there are in the summer months. We only had light rain in Juneau. Skagway and Ketchikan were sunny and in the 60's. We were also fortunate to see pods of killer whales during our wildlife cruise in Juneau, which was the highlight of our trip. It is much cheaper if you sail in May as this is considered the low season. We had booked our cruise in October, 2001, originally for the 5/13/02 sailing, and had booked a Category B mini suite on the HAL Volendam. 2 weeks before we sailed, our travel agent called and said that HAL had overbooked the 5/13 sailing. They then offered to upgrade us to a Category S suite, with $250 shipboard credit if we would change to the 5/20 sailing. Fortunately everything worked out so we could take them up on their offer.

Hi Sportsfan,
WE did the inside passage at the end of Aug and had wonderful weather, but thats just something you can't count on while up in Alaska. You can usually expect some rain, we too had just one afternoon of rain in Juneau, the rest of the week was perfect for Alaska, at least all the natives commented on the weather at each stop we had. WE had an amazing day at Hubbard Glacier, that was the highlight of the cruise for me, had no idea it would be so eye catching and beautiful.

Actually any of those dates should be good, but its really a hit or miss with the weather up there, hopefully you will have great weather, just pack some rain gear and don't let that bother you. You may want to read my review and look at the pics at the bottom of them:

Have Fun.

Donna,
I saw your pictures and you were SO lucky!! We went the beginning of July and had pretty decent weather except for Sitka where it rained all day. Next year we're going the end of June, so that ought to be interesting too (if we can just figure out what to do now that the Diamond burned up!)
Sportsfan, the weather in Alaska is totally unpredictable. Just pick the date that works best for you and go for it. You might have a little rain here and there (Alaska, after all is a rain forest), or you might luck out and have 7 straight days of beautiful sunshine like Donna. The key is to pack for anything (layers) and DON'T overpack. There were things we thought we'd wear, but never did. Alaska was and is my favorite cruise ever!
