glacier heli tour: Juneau or Skagway?

We are planning on taking a glacier tour via helicopter in late July. Do you recommend doing this out of Juneau or Skagway,-- or doesn't it make a difference? Are both more likely to go off in the afternoon vs. morning?

There is no way to predict the cancelations- I have seen them throughout the day. If it is a MUST DO, then double book and be prepared to either go twice or eat some cancelation fees. A possibility would be to book with TEMSCO who flys to both Juneau and Skagway- they may offer more generous cancelation policies if you book both trips with them???

As for the experiences from each city- a glacier landing is excellent no matter which area you go out of.

Caostal does not charge you if the flight is cancelled, but they only go out of Juneau.

we booked with temesco this past aug for a glacier/dog sled ride and they fly out of juneau and skagway-----the concenus was that juneau cancels more often then skagway--so we booked skagway------the weather in juneau was sunny warm and perfect flying weather-------skagway was cancelled because of bad weather---it seems that you pay your money and you take your chances

For clairfication, TEMSCO operates glacier helicopter landings out of both Juneau and Skagway BUT the glacier dog sledding only out of Skagway. These are 2 different trips going to 2 different locations with the dog sledding being fixed.
