warm enough to swim?

Hi all,
has anyone been on alaskan cruise departing from san francisco?
Is it too cold to be sun bathing on deck during month of May or Sept?
I see lots of messages about packing layers for warmth...etc...makes me a little worried.

Holly,
I wouldn't plan on any sun bathing, but you just never know. I did cruise Alaska this past late Aug/early Sept. and we did have a few days where I could wear a pair of shorts and sit out on the deck, no swimming. People were using the outside hot tubs though, temps did get into the 70's a few days, still a little cold to just lay out in the sun.

You won't see sunbathing on Alaska cruises. With an enclosed pool you will see that used with swimmers, but few users of outside uncovered pools. Just too cold with ave temps 50-70. Colder before mid May and Sept.

Good thing i asked...definately want a chance to sun-bath.
planning a wedding on cruise...still have to decide on destination.
