I have read several times that we should be sure to get to the Visiter Center early to absorb some of the history before taking the White Pass train at Skagway. Is it a movie, or just museum displays to wander around? How much time should we allow? Thanks!
While I'm sure that would be very interesting, but if you are pressed for time, the entire trip is narriated throughout with lots of information. I didn't even know about this, just went on the train and its rather long, 3-1/2 hours. Well worth seeing some of the interior of Alaska, have fun with or without the movie.
The above is referring to the Park Service Visitor Center and NOT the railroad. I highly recommend a pm train tour to allow a stop at the Park Service. They have a worthwhile move, ranger talks, small museum and walking tours- all different dependeing on the ranger. In the museum they have a model of what 1000lb of goods may be. If going on a walking tour- allow 1 1/2 hours. You may also want to consider direct booking a pm rail tour since the park service is only 2 buildings away and any train tour booked through the ship boards at the ship. $1 shuttle drops off at the visitor center but very walkable without mobility limitations.
