Congratulations! Waiting is part of the fun, I guess... Sometimes it's hard to wait! What ship and itinerary are you doing? I'm sure you'll have a great time regardless.

We sail on our first cruise in exactly 2 months! Alaska was our first choice, actually our only consideration. We are sailing on the Prinsedam, a rather SMALL ship compared to others. I believe it only carries around 790 passengers total. Have booked a few excursions on our own. Still deciding on a few other excursions in a few ports. Our cruise is a 14 night R/T from San Francisco. Keeping fingers crossed that we don't find out we suffer from seasickness. Already have our prescriptions for patches, which we will put on the day before we embark. Happy sailing to all. The count down is on!!!!

Dusty,

I too am under 6 months, FINALLY, for my first cruise. I booked the day the books opened with HAL on the Veendam for 8/3 southbound cruise.

I've changed my packing list three times already. Listening to good hints from these and other boards made me realize I didn't need 7 slacks, coats, etc. I think I'm down to one bag now. WOW!

Have a wonderful cruise. I don't care what goes wrong.......just let me sail on the ship!

I significantly cut down on luggage by always doing my laundry in port. Skagway is very accessable and walkable from the ship or just a block from the $1 shuttle.

Karen,
I have been reading about your laundry idea. In Skagway, is this a drop off laundry and you pick it up later or do you give up excursion time and wash clothes. What kind of rates do they offer if they do it? I have family of 4 and already dreading the amount of clothes my wife is going to put in the suitcases. 100% of the time we overpack and this may be a good way to lose a few suitcases. Let me know...

We want to spend our anniv. on a cruise, but that is this August, are we too late to do it?

Hi Amelia,
If you want to cruise in Aug. of this year, I'd get looking around now. Do you have an idea of where and on what ship you want to cruise?

If so, you may want to start by posting in the "bargain finder" here at Cruisemates, great way to get prices and cabin availability now:

http://www.cruisemates.com/CF/bargfind/

Once you post there, travel agents will e-mail you with what they have, based on the information your provide in your post. Also be sure to list the departure city if you want cruise/air included.

Good luck, hope you find just the right cruise to celebrate your anniversary!

Re: UNDER 6 MONTHS TO (just had to say it)

Laundry in Skagway, located at Second and State does have drop off service, but I have never used it and always use the self serve. I have had some splended conversations with people. :) Anyway if you use the big propane dryers you can be done in a little over an hour. You could contact the visitor site and get the laundry contact and inquire of rates. www.skagway.org

As for sailing in August- no it's not too late, I never book more than 60 days ahead myself. But if you are set on a cruiseline or ship, you need to inquire and book soon. It can pay to be flexable.

JUST US,

i think the smaller ship will be more personal and you will get more attention from the staff. it sounds like a great trip. do the patches really work. this will be my first cruise so i dont know if i will need to take something or not. do you have to go through a dr. to get them. i am leaving from vancouver so i hope i dont run into rough sea's like you might. have a wonderful time and let us know how it goes.
