Can anyone recommend good things to do in Sitka. I plan to do the standard walking
tour on my own. I've gotten a book ahead of time, and the items in there include the standard stops in the town and even a little out of town such as the Raptor CEnter, the National Historic Park, and the St Michaels Russian Orthodox Church.
Does anyone have any suggestions for other things to do or particular excursions in
Sitka? We will be going in mid-May. We were thinking about taking a cab to Whale Park, but somebody said that the whales are only there in the fall. Is there any wildlife that is viewable there in May? What else?
I know we have less time at Sitka since we'll have to tender in, but it still seems like we are going to have lots of extra time.
You've about hit time all, also there is the Sheldon museum Miller museum, and Archangle dancer, if of interest. There is a $2 + admission to St. Michaels. No whales in May and no salmon either- which attracts the the other wildlife. With your short time, you are probably better off hitting your listed attractions, making the most of your time. Consider purchasing the cheap Park Service guidebook re the pole at Sitka Heritage Park, will greatly enhance what the poles you are seeing are about. Request their visitor guide www.sitka.org
