I've been reading these boards for about 2 months and finally decided to join. We're going on our 2nd cruise (1st w/Carnival, this time with Princess) in June. We're headed to Alaska with my husband's sister & her husband. CAN'T WAIT ! ! We're so excited.
Is jeans ok to wear on the ship (since it'll be cold, I assume)? I know they're not acceptable for the evening dining, but I wanted to know about just hanging around on the ship.
Plus, is it close to Gastown, Chinatown from Days Inn in Vancouver? Walking distance?
Yes, jeans are perfect for days onboard or in ports. I packed a few pairs and wore them everyday and was fine. We went the beginning of Sept. last year. You may also want to pack a pair of shorts or 2, we had a few days where it was warm enough to wear them, suprised me!
From the port in Vancouver, yes you can walk around Gastown, in fact thats just what we did prior to the cruise and it was a wonderful town, hope you make time for that.
I gave up taking jeans to Alaska long ago. What works best for me are lined and unlined wind pants. If you are outdoors all the time- like I am, jeans tend to get and stay damp, take up too much room and take forever to dry. I always do my laundry in Skagway. It really cuts down significantly on bulk. Also be sure to take rain gear, knit hat, gloves and 2 pair of walking shoes- again possible for wet weather.
