Default unlocking your 'zip ties'?

i want to use the zip ties but i also 'do not want to take nail clippers' to cut them in my carry-on!!. do all of you put them in a part of your check in luggage unlocked so you can cut them when you are in your cabin. can you buy nail clippers in the ships store?

just a 'never cruised before' , and havnt flown in a long time question. dusty

Why don't you want to take them in your carry-on? DH carried ours in his pocket. They are on the list of acceptable items to airlines. You could try asking your room steward for something to cut thm with. They probably see this problem now. Back before 9/11, I forgot to take my manicure set. I wanted a pair of nail clippers and had to buy a whole manicure set to get them. I don't recall seeing any in the ship stores last week, but I wasn't really looking.

Carry a plastic collar stay with you in your pocket. (I find them on a lot of shirts I buy at Pennys. The white ones are a little stiffer.) Trim it down to slide in the locking slot on the cable ties. Presto !!! You are now a lock picker. Saves cutting the ties.. and you won't have to worry about it being confiscated..

we packed a manicure kit in the front pocket of our checked luggage & used that to open the cable locks - came in handy for other things also

As far as I can tell small plain nail clippers have always been acceptable. However, if they have any kind of fold-out nail file, even if it's only an inch long, that may not be OK, unless things have gotten saner in recent days.
