Default Halibut Fishing in Skagway

Any feedback on this excursion? What was the name of the charter boat? Am leaving on 7/29 via Northern Sky. Did you catch fish? What do they charge to prepare and send your fish home? Any info will be most appreciated.

Default Re: Halibut Fishing in Skagway

Halibut fishing is best in Ketchikan, salmon fishing OK in Skagway.

We shared a tour (photo safari tour) in Skagway with a couple who had booked to go halibut fishing and they had it cancelled due to poor weather conditions on the water, that's why they were with us on our tour. Our tour guide told us that Skagway was not a great place to fish for Halibut but was ok for salmon.
They ended up booking an excusion in Ketchikan and they had a huge halibut shipped back to their home. He kept telling us how big the fish was....you know when they put their hands out sooooo wide and he couldn't stop smiling about it either. One very happy camper!!

This is just my story... I'm sure there are many others.
Do some research before you book to avoid disappointment.

Smile Fishing in Skagway

True, Halibut fishing in Skagway is non existant, unless you run 70 miles. However, King Salmon Fishing is good and Taiya Inlet is the most beautiful venue. Lots of wildlife is seen on every trip. Small Boat Harbor is located right next to the Cruise Ships. Respectfully, Captain Mike Hardy - Choctaw Charters
