Clothing
I know everyone says "dress in layers". Ok. What I am needing to know is: How many short sleeve and/or long sleeve and/or sweaters should I pack for a 7 day Alaskan cruise? I understand that even if the temp is in the 70s on land, it's probably in the 40s or 50s on the water. Could I get away with packing all short sleeve shirts with a few sweaters? Or should I just pack long sleeve shirts and roll them up if I get hot?
We are needing to know exactly how much to pack so we know how many suitecases we will need.
Thanks!

Re: Clothing
Kelley,
I'd pack more short sleeves and if its too cold, then the sweater/jacket over that. Thats basically what I packed and was fine, some days were even warm enough for just a t-shirt and shorts if it reached 70 degrees, which it did a few afternoons. You just need to be ready for anything, and don't forget some kind of rain gear, you'll probibaly run into some of that too.

Re: Clothing
You will be better off with a variety. Take a few short and maybe 1-2 long with the sweatshirts or warm sweaters. You need a lightweight lined jacket and should be fine.

Re: Clothing
As a side note- the later you are going the less short sleeves you will need, any thing past the first week of Sept will have no use for shorts.

Re: Re: Clothing
Hi Karen,
Well, last Sept., we did see 2 afternoons in the 70's so I was glad I did pack a pair of shorts, did wear them. Most of the locals in the ports did mention that the weather that week was unusually nice and warm, no rain either. I think we just were very lucky that week, it totally suprised me, had a lot more cold weather clothes packed. You just never know.

Re: Re: Re: Clothing
We will be there from August 16th to August 27th. I am going to pack short & long sleeve, as well as a few sweaters. I have a fleece jacket and a winter jacket (which we will need for the dog sledding excursion we have booked) I am also bringing gloves and earmuffs.

If I recall correctly??? You went end of August through beg of Sept??? You won't need shorts generally from mid Sept on.

Re: Re: Clothing
Karen,
We were up there the first week of Sept., over Labor Day and got back the 6th of Sept., probibaly not the usual temps for that time of year. I was just glad I did throw a pair of shorts in, didn't think I'd need them.

Re: Clothing

Re: Re: Clothing
Dear Alaska Bound:
I just booked the Island Princess yesterday for next summer. I only have 11 months to wait, but I am very excited. Any suggestions as to what to pack, what do see, what excursions, etc.; and how did you like the ship?
Happy Cruising......Anita

Re: Clothing
Dusty you will need cooler attire than what is listed, the later you go, the less likely of temps above 60's.
