Best way to carry stuff in port?

We're planning to buy a new bag or two for carrying stuff around while in port (wallets, drinks, binoculars, cameras, etc.). Any advice for what to look for in a bag? I was thinking some type of backpack maybe.

If I think I'm going to add/subtract layers, I carry a small backpack that I bought at Target for about $10. It has an outside mesh section for my water bottle.

If I don't need to carry very much, I have a water bottle carrier that goes around my waist and has pockets that will accommodate a small wallet, sunglasses, some notes, a lipstick, and my Epi-pen.

If you plan on doing any souvenier shopping, backpacks help. Much easier to simply drop each bag into the backpack than to have to keep up with numerous varied sized bags. I use the outside pocket of my backpack for things I might need, e.g.binoculars or sun screen, and the inside pocket for stuff I won't need to get out until I'm back on board. I use a fanny pack for small stuff like sun glasses.

I also take a back pack and a smaller fanny bag, seems to work out well, especially when shopping.

Back pack definately - don't go overboard. :)
