Yes a few years ago I rented from Great Alaskan Holidays for a week and did round trip up to Fairbanks (did a prerental with a car for 4 days going to Seward). Yes there are plenty of companies to choose from and I would strongly encourage you to get the companies extra insurance when offered. Main problems are cracked windshields. Roads are perfectly maintained (you will be restricted from all the unpaved, with a few exceptions- but then you have to sign your life away). Driving the "main" route- Parks- Richardson- Glenn will have no problems outside of lengthly construction waits. No hairpin turns, unsafe areas etc. Services available, a NECESSARY reference will be the milepost. Be certain to get a copy- if purchasing- do so after 3-04 for the new edition, otherwise try your library or half.com for a copy a few years old. Plan on 10mpg tops with gas and do consider a 24 foot or more, so to have a separate bedroom (unless the over head is OK???), so as to not have to set up every night. They are very easy to manage- even in the cities. If going peak season- and want to use the free State park camping permit (Great Alaskan has it), you may have to be at camp by afternoon to get a spot, I rented from about the 20th of August and the campgrounds were empty (except for Reilly Creek at Denali Park). Repost with any further info needed.
