I am in the market for a new camera and since we are going to Alaska in Sept. I want to purchase a camera that will take quality pictures of wildlife from the ship. Does anyone have some suggestions? Brand? $$?
I won't suggest brand or model because that's personal choice and features you need or don't need. Canon, Fuji, Sony, Olympus, Kodak all have good cameras. I will suggest however to go digital. 2.1 megapixel is the minimum and probably enough. Those shouldn't be too expensive. They blow up to 8 x 10 very well. The more megapixel however the better. But as you go up the prices go up as well.
Features I suggest you might check:
Optical eyepiece (using the screen to frame photos eats the battery)
movie mode (will not replace the camcorder)
If movie mode will it have sound?
Go to the local shop where you may buy. Circuit City or Best Buy, etc. And test them out for comfort and features. Don't buy yet.
Here is a great website where a person reviews practically every digital camera out there. See what he thinks of the camera you're favoring. You'll get a great idea if the camera you're thinking of is a good choice. He'll also suggest others. It was great help to us in deciding which cameras to go with (my wife and I went different directions in this and our both happy with our choices). You'll learn a lot just reading the very in depth reviews. This person is not trying to sell cameras.
