We are taking a cruise tour Starting Aug 23 going Fairbank-Denali-Anchorage-Whittier then down the inside passge to Vancouver, ending on Sep 4.
We are taking several excursions, Into Denali, Whale watching, Rain Forest and one fresh water fishing trip. No Glacier trips.
I have a complete goretex suit, but carriing the whole thing along would be a little cumbersome. The wife has typical un hooded raincoat and a Frogg Togg rain jacket. How well would a rain proof poncho meet our needs? I am thinking they are quite compact, easily fit in a back pack and usually cover everything. They would also allow layering of clothes underneath when needed.
Yes to the poncho's, in fact you'll see merchants selling them in almost every port and they don't take up much room either. I packed a waterproof jacket with hood that worked well the one afternoon we were in rain, so go ahead and just pack ponchos and have fun
I absolutely recommend the easy, portable, cheap plastic ponchos. I was easily carrying 5 of them in my bag. I need one at the Glaciers in Juneau and it worked out perfect. I found mine at Walmart for about $2.00 - $4.00.
