My hubby and I are going on our 2nd cruise - our first to Alaska, on May 30. From what I've read through some research, I understand that this is NOT the best time to see the Aurora Borealis. Has anyone been to Alaska at this time of year and seen it?
Nope - you won't see any northern lights end of May. Way too much daylight and you are in the wrong area- need to be at least interior Alaska- by mid April at the latest. Earliest I have seen it is end of August and then in the middle of the night. Very few ships even have enough darkness for viewing. Best now sailing is the Dawn/Sun Princess- at the front Aloha deck.
Pat of juneauphotos.com loves to photograph the Northern Lights, and the latest I've seen from him (in Juneau) was one on May 2nd, in 2003. He has an Email link, so it's worth asking, but I'd doubt it too.
Thanks for your imput, everyone. Disappointing, but I had a feeling that I wouldn't be able to see it. That's okay though, we are still so excited and thrilled to be going to Alaska!
