Mosquitoes in Alaska

DO NOT, and I repeat DO Not Fail to take a mosquitoes replellent like
"Deet" aka "Sawyer Maxi Deet" is the most recommended and effective s[pray repellent. It come in a small cannister that can fit into a pocket book or jacket or pants pocket. If you forget it you can probably buy it in an Alaaska drug store or hardware store.

I've been twice in June and never saw any mosquitos. There's a discussion on another board and Karen hasn't seen many bugs either in 17(?) trips. Maybe in the interior, but in the port towns, I wouldn't worry. I'm a mosquito magnet (I'm scratching 5 bites now from feeding the stray cat last night without protection), so I was really worried the first time I went. But not one bite, and no one I talked to had any either.

Yes, I once almost got carried away in Wonder Lake, beg. of August one year. Very very few "regular" visitors go there. I now don't go there until the end of August- again this year.

The only times I remember getting 'bugged" were the outings to lakes/slow rivers.

Never on the coastline.
