I am going on my first cruise to Alaska. I am having a hard time deciding what shore excursion to book in Keitchikan. Is the Misty Fjords a good excursion? The shore excursion costs $217 per person for a 2 hour float plane ride. Any recomendations? We were going to to get tickets to the Lumberjack show, but I don't want to miss anyting.
In Skagway, we are booked with the White Pass Railroad scenic ride
In Junaeu, we are booked for the whale sighting, mendenhall glacier, and salmon bake
Beth, On our Alaska cruise our ship (Vision of the Seas) sailed into Misty Fjords. It was evening just before dinner & a truly gorgeous place. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. Have a wonderful cruise!
Flights are top tours in Alaska. With a glacier helicopter landing my favorite. Misty fjords floatplanes are also excellent and depending on your flying experience- maybe a new aircraft experience?? But I would book independent- the advantage- you are allowed off the plane on land. Most all ship booked contracted flights only allow you to step on the pontoons. I have flown with Southeast Aviation, Carlin Air and Island Wings- all will give an excellent tour.
I second Delores. We were on the Vision too and it was magnificant/ Misty Fiords were incredible that we were so close to the trees and trhe water was so still and pristine that it took your breath away. The float planes flew over our ship so if you are thinking about expense, you will get into the fiords on the ship!

We booked Island Wings-Misty Fjords on our own. Two hour floatplane cost $199/person. Was favorite excurson of entire trip. Just don't book flight right after your arrival time in port in case any delays getting into port. Absolutely gorgeous scenery and Michelle from island Wings will actually land and let you get out of seaplane for approx. 20-25 minutes.
Hi - We have booked the Misty Fjords flightseeing with SeaWind Aviation - Island Wings was booked. Has anyone had experience with SeaWind? We booked our excursion for 9:00 am and we arrive at 8:00 am. Does that allow us plenty of time upon arrival?
Go to www.visit-ketchikan.com and see if your ship docks or tenders??? Also verify the time with the vender and ask for their recommendations on scheduling.
Recommend Sea Wind Aviation for your flightseeing. This guy has a Cessna that fits four nicely. You are not one of the cattle like on one of the larger planes. Very personal insight into the area you will see. Steve grew up there and can give you some really great history of this beautiful place. This guy is a good pilot. My wife and I really enjoyed this part of our trip.
