Boarding Documents - Alaska

I am a US citizen leaving from Vancouver B.C. for an Alaska cruise. Do I need a passport or is a birth certificate with a raised seal and driver's license enough? Sure would like to know what other's have done as this is my first cruise. Thanks

I was told that it would be better to have a passport. They also said that it would be quicker.

I take my passport as well as drivers license and have never had a problem going thru vancouver for the cruise, i am booked at a hotel for one night and both forms of id are accepted.

OK, here's my take on this.... we only had a birth certificate and drivers licenses. we got thru very quickly. Just do your paper work online ahead of time. Speeds it up

I was told by the customs agent that a birth certficate and picture ID was enough. I had my passport anyway.

Passport are too expensive if you aren't a frequent traveler. Notarized birth cert and driver license is enough. No copies or no expired license or you will be left behind.

Your passport and birth certificate will work just fine as long as the names match on both documents. If you are male, that's probably not a problem. For me as a woman, I had two choices I could either get a passport or carry around a whole docier full of documents...so I opted for a passport. In the whole scheme of things, passports aren't all that expensive. I think mine was $85, but it is good for 10 years. That's cheap compared to our Driver's Licenses here...$20 for 2 years but you have to have one to drive. .
