for my sept cruise last year i surfed the net under tours in ketchikan. you could do the same with '' ketchikan bear tours'''. im sure alot of them would come up. good luck, i hope you see alot of bears and have a great cruise.
How do these bear tours for black bears compare with bear tours from Homer? Are the Homer ones browns? When is peak season there? Same price range. Are we talking at least $300-600 each for any of these trips? It would nice to have one of the Nat'l Geographic type of photo opportunities, but would have to pass up all other flights to do. If denali is visible, we will probably try that from Talkeetna when we drive thru to and from denali.
Yes big difference out of Homer they are the big browns, and tours are more costly, nothing under about $500pp. Cheaper out of Ketchikan. Choose carefully any Homer tour- some are VERY basic, requiring treks using waders and hauling in/out EVERYTHING. I am going with Halo tours myself end of August. For clairfication- McKinley flightseeing is NOT the same view from the ground- likely to be obscured but clear from the air. I would skimp everywhere else in favor of tours- that is what makes Alaska touring so great. There are deals right now with Alamo rental cars for $149/wk if that cuts down on costs???
