No risk factor other than breakage. We put our contraband booze in a zip-lock bag and then wrapped it in a towel. No problems - It made it through 2 airplane transfers and delivery to our cabin. The nice thing was that it also created some empty room in our luggage for souviners!
Funny you should ask! I asked the same Question befor our cruise in June and was told all sorts of stories, Packed away two bottles and worried from Toronto to Edmonton then form Edmonton to Vancouver From the dock to the cabin only to find out theres a duty free store with the best of the best on board . You can buy what ever you want and its in your cabin befor you can walk back. If anything pack mix , I like water and spent more on it than the scotch. You can have your room steward bring extra glasses to your room and then as your going for dinner or a walk just take it with you and leave the glass where ever! We were on the Radiance, but I would bet all ships have this, have a great time!!!!
This is a mystery to me. I heard all sorts of stories about how they don't let you bring booze on and they don't let you buy it in duty free and bring it to your room.
I just got off a week on Sapphire with a group of 16. We all brought booze on with us with no hassle. Many of us bought some in port with no hassle. I ordered a couple of bottles from room service and had them delivered to my room with mix at very reasonable prices.
I didn't try duty free but was under the impression that they would hold on to it until the end of the cruise but have heard stories indicating otherwise.
All in all my thinking is that the booze issue is over hyped interms of restrictions to bringing or buying your own.
I just returned from cruise to Alaska on Norwegian. Princess does not seem to check as much as Norwegian. Norwegian wants all your money spent on board so they are very careful. I was able to sneak beer inside a diet coke 24 pack w/ diet coke all around the edges. Water bottles worked well for the alcohol. Everyone else we spoke w/ had their bottles confiscated as they did not transfer them into a water bottle. We just carried the water bottle on in plain site as if we were drinking out of it.
