We'll be cruising on the Sapphire to Alaska on 9/5/04. We've been told to take mosquito spray, but my husband who is a Minnesota native (and mosquito expert!) thinks by early September the weather should be cool enough not to worry about packing the spray. Advice please from someone who's been there that time of year. Thanks.
i was in skagway, junea and ketchikan sept 10 to the 17th last year and did not see any of those pesky bugs. it made for a much more pleasant trip not to have to deal with them. of course i was in the ports and not out in the walking paths through the forsest and parks. you can always buy some good stuff there if you need it. have a great time on your trip.
If it were me, I would take Deet along since it comes in a small can and costs less locally than what it will cost you in Alaska. If you do not want to take the spray along you can readily buy it in the hardware and general merchandise store on th dock in Ketchikan. It sells on the second floor. In Juneau you can buy it in a drug store..
I hate to predict the weather in September for we have taken many cruises to Alaska in September. Sometimes it is cold and other trimes hot and quite often it rains. This year the day tome temperatures have been warmer than usual, sometimes as high as 85 deg. fah in the Pan Handle area where you probably will be cruising most of the time.
We cruised the latter part of July this year and it was the first time that wev ever saw passengers using a swimming pool where the ship had no cover over the pool; and sun bathing.. We have cruised twice a year in Alaska since 1972.
