celebrity infinity ok for teens?
i'm considering on taking my teenager on the celebrity infinity to alaska next summer. i don't know anything about this ship and was wondering:

1. will my teenager meet other teenagers on board?
2. do they have a 'covered' swimming pool so that she can utilize the pool while in alaska? she is 16 years old and i've heard mixed reviews that the 'covered' pool is only for adults.

thanks for any info. you can give me. the last thing i want to do is have my daughter bored to tears because there aren't many teens her age to meet.

Re: celebrity infinity ok for teens?
Hi Persimmon,
We cruised Infinity in Alaska and depending on when you are going would depend on how many teens are on board. We went during Labor Day week and kids were already in school, so didn't see any onboard. IF you are earlier, then there should be some.

Not sure about the pool, as to what the age is for the T-pool, never saw kids in there, but many people were using the hot tubs on the outdoor pool deck on the nice days.

Over all on Celebrity there will be far fewer kids on board compared to the Caribbean. More important - my opinion only- will be what is outside the ship- ports, time in ports, route, glacier. The kids will find plenty to do no matter what you choose- and it will GREATLY help if they have an interest in Alaska. :)

There are always teens on board, it just depends on how sociable your own teen is. If you're looking for other teen cruisers, there is a teen forum.

I would choose a different brand. Celebrity is not the best line for teens.

Re: celebrity infinity ok for teens?

We've booked for an Celebrity Alaska Cruise for July 2005. I have a teenage
daughter. Celebrity is not known for teens and kids, but we chose Celebrity
because we felt it would be more relaxing NOT to be on a ship with rock
climbing or inline skate rinks, etc. We are really looking for a quiet and
peaceful vacation and feel Celebrity provides that sort of environment.

If you teenager needs sports or entertainment, activities, Celebrity may not
be the cruise ship for you. My daughter is comfortable reading and doing
solitary activities.

We regularly go camping with a large group of friends to Yosemite every year.
Well, next year, that large group is going - all together (4-5 families, 4-6 teenage
boys) on an Alaska Princess Cruise - they have already booked 11 cabins on
the Princess Sapphire and have been trying and trying to get us to switch to
Princess. I have nothing against Princess (I've cruised the Carribean on
Princess, 14 days, Panama). They choose Princess for the activities available
for kids.

Another friend, also cruising next year, is cruising on RCI, and just loves RCI
for activities for kids.

Re: celebrity infinity ok for teens?
For clairfication the above is not valid on Alaska sailings. All lines basically are "relaxed" and ship activies are way secondary to any thing outside the ship in Alaska. No party ships yet- and even Carnival is subdued with the majority of passengers on ALL lines middle aged and above. I recommend booking for what is OUTSIDE the ship- ports, time in ports, glacier, route, price. RCI/Celebrity are lacking in no Glacier Bay or College Fjords. There is no perfect cruise. :) If ship is important then go with that- but don't compare sailing Alaska with sailing other areas- just not an issue.

Dear persimmon,

I sailed on the Infinity to Alaska two years ago. The ship is beautiful! There is a teen program offered onboard and there is a separate area for them to hang out. Also, there is an indoor pool on the ship.

The indoor pool (Thalassotherapy Pool) is reserved for adults 18 years and older. Celebrity is not as teen and child friendly as you may need. You probably won't spend much time in the pool..too much to see and do in Alaska.
