I was planning on taking a floatplane/flightseeing tour in Ketchikan with Michelle at Island Wings. We are currently reserved for 8 -10. I was just reviewing some of the boards and notice that kayaking is another favorite touring option. We are taking a helicopter tour in Juneau and a flightseeing tour of Mt. McKinley in Talkeetna. I cannot decide if I should stick with the flightseeing in Ketchikan/Misty Fjord or cancel and book a kayaking tour with South Seas Kayak. The ship is only docked from 6:30 - 2:30 - so unfortunately we won't have time to do both. South Seas Kayak tour is 4 hours.
Has anyone done both? Any preferences? Any suggestions???
Yes I have done both, several times. A factor may be your flying experience??? My opinion only but I always give an edge to flights- just my priorities. I also suggest a summit flight of McKinley, again my preference over the summit view flights. - the most costly but superior in my opinion.
I don't know the cost or who does this or the time needed (a lot of help , huh?) but when I was there I took the floatplane tour (Which I loved) but another couple took a tour where you floatplane into the "Mistys" but take a boat out. I saw their pictures and that look pretty cool. But as I said, time constraints could limit that one.
I find the flight/boat combo in Ketchikan taking up too much time for a first time vistor, because they usually have no time for even a brief look at Ketchikan.
Thanks for your replies. I think we are going to stick with just the float plane. As Karen 16 stated we do want to leave some time for seeing the sights around town.
When we return to Alaska we'll make sure we take the kayak tours.
