I know to dress in Layers for the day and excursions - but what about for the formal nights/ dinner wear? Should I dress with long sleeves or will a sleevless dress be alright? I am on the Seranaded of the Sea in the middle of June. Any advice on what the other ladies wear to dinner?
Thanks
Hi LG,
Yes, for inside the ship, just dress normally for any of the evenings, including "formal". I usually take a sweater in case the dining room is chilly from the A/C, but you should be fine. The reason for dressing in layers for going out and doing excursions, it starts off fairly chilly in the mornings and warms up a bit, but if you are going to a glacier, then you need to bundle up.
Ok, my followup question would be if it would be appropriate to wear a sleevless or even a strapless cocktail dress? Would I be out of place or is that common.
Thanks!
i wore a beautiful strapless, long glittery dress on the first formal nite for my alaska cruise and was very comfortable. and i must say i felt very elegant and special. dont be afraid to wear a sleevless or strapless gown or dress. have a great time.
Thank you so much for the advice. Formal wear is not something I am always in demand for- you know I have 2 dresses, one bought, one borrowed. The one borrowed is strapless. I just didn't want to walk around looking.........sleezy(for lack of a better word).....around more mature cruisers! I'm only 37 and don't want to dress older than I am, but don't want to attract negetive attention either Know what I'm saying???
I just turned 60 (yikes) and I wear sleeveless and sometimes strapless evening gowns....I don't think it's sleezy at all. All my friends say I have excellent taste in clothes...just wear what looks nice on you...go for it!
