Default Anchorage-where to stay

After our cruise we have one day in Anchorage until our flight leaves. I would like to avoid getting a rental car and just stay in a centrally located hotel or b&b that we can make our home base. Any suggestions?

WHAT do you wish to do in Anchorage??? In my opinion, it is best seen via car. If you want downtown activities, you need to look at hotels within walking distance. Listings- www.anchorage.net

I am thinking we will have seen a lot already--but I wouldn't mind a bike tour or just wandering around shops. I would like a nice place to stay if we just want to rest and some good restaurants. I can't help but think a car equals stress. However I don't want to be sitting around bored because there is nothing to do where we stay.

In other words, we would like something centrally located where there is at least some things to see and do. We realize we don't have a lot of time.

Thanks.

If you want to bike the Coastal trail , then I would get a downtown lodging, Plenty to choose from. Look at listings www.anchorage.net and consult a map.

My wife and I took the Alaska cruis last june. We stayed one night after the cruis in Anchorage. We stayed at the Ramada Inn Downtown on 3rd AV. It is only a 2 block walk to the main streets in downtown Anchorage. Everything is close by nice Resturants- the town square- shops. Its enough to keep you busy all day. After the cruise we just wanted to relax and go at our own pace. It was a very pleasant city. Also around the square the had hot dog carts.. one of the items on them were Reindeer meats. They were really good. Enjoy yourself

We stayed at the holiday inn downtown. Nice hotel rooms for a Holiday inn. The lobby was just okay. It's close to shops and restaurants. If you pay upfront (nonrefundable), it's cheaper.
