We are planning to rent a car in Skagway and drive the Klondike Hwy, we like to stop and site see, take photos etc. Will the ship pack a box lunch for us, or do we have to pocket food from the buffett. Does any one have any experience in driving this area? Would we be better off taking the train? We thought it might be neat if another couple wanted to go, and we could split the cost of the car, and get to make some new friends at the same time.
Any ideas where to stop, what to see, places to go?
Print out Murray's EXCELLENT highway log www.explorenorth.com for the Klondike Highway. The rail is significant for history. You can order room service and pack up yourself, by bringing baggies. BUT there may be restrictions on WHAT if anything you can take off the ship and /or take into Canada. Also be sure to bring your US passports/birth certificates. I have driven the Klondike Highway many times, I suggest you consider to Emerald Lake and return 150 miles round trip. You can stop for lunch in Carcross, which would be my preference over an unrefridgerated ship take out.
we will be in Skagway on the 8th. Sorry we're 1 week to early to catch up with you. We are sailing the Norwegian star out of Seattle on the 5th. Have a rental reserved thru Avis in Skagway. Wouldn't mind meeting with another couple to share the ride with.
