What's the difference between Alaska Whale Watching and othe
I have been to a whal watching in mexico and hawai and i have seen humpbacks on both occasions....why should i do this in Alaska? would it be different? would the difference be worth the $135
Re: What's the difference between Alaska Whale Watching and
Your best bet would be to have a cab pick you up at the dock at Auk Bay after your whale watch and take youto the glacier. After you have toured the glacier you cold either jump on one of the $5 a person Glacier/cruise ship docks shuttle, or if you have more than four people you could catch a cab.

What time does your ship leave??? Are you taking a late whale watch??? The visitor center closes around 6:30pm?? and shuttle stop running a while after. If you aren't interested in seeing more whales, then certainly choose something else to do. Plenty of great choices.

Last summer when we went whalewatching with Orca they picked up and dropped off people at motels by the airport and offered to drop off at the Glacier if anybody was interested.
As Denise mentions above, maybe they were overloaded that day.
It's $10 round trip to take a bus (like a schoolbus) from the docks to the Glacier and back. I know it's not a cab but they do the round trip all day.
Re: Re: What's the difference between Alaska Whale Watching
We also have been whalewatching in Maui, Cabo, Juneau, ISP, and now Monterey Bay. We paid $28 for the last one this weekend, and saw 3 humpbacks. But the wind was up and while we were prepared for rough ride, it was so bouncy when we stopped to watch whales that we could hardly get photos as everyone kept bouncing into each other. And with the chop in the water, it was tough to see. Cabo was great but not too many whales for $89 with open bar and snacks. Maui was pretty good, and ran about $35-50. Our most productive trips have been with Cap Larry in Juneau and trip at ISP. Alaska only has about a 41/2-5 month season and they have as many as 12,000 or more cruise passengers looking for something to do. They charge accordingly to just fill their boats, what the market will bear. Cost of living is so much higher there than in the other areas.

A cab Mendenhall/downtown will run about $25. Excellent whale watching also on the East Coast out of Gloucester, including research boats that go and stay out for several days. Will be on one in July, nothing beats the endless views and all day to watch.
