Trying to decide between the cruise shuttle bus and Glacier Discovery Train (from Anchorage to Whittier). I see where the train leaves at 10 am and 2 to 2-1/2 hours. Would appreciate comments from those who have done either or both!
Also, if you choose the cruise shuttle bus and are given a time, must you go at that specific time or will they let you get on an earlier bus? Just wondering how strict they are about bus boarding.
P.S. We are arriving in Anchorage the day prior to cruising, so we will be handling our luggage from hotel to Egan or RR station. I assume the train will accept all of our luggage as would the bus.
The train has a baggage car. As you probably already know- the routes are EXACTLY the same with either mode. In the past, bus passes were assigned from morning and people could get on buses that had open seats, But there was usually a line of people waiting for the few possible seats. I wouldn't waste my time hanging around the Egan Center on the chance of an earlier seat. If you want an early bus, be there early to get one? This may all have changed, so verify what the current situation is. With only one day and no other interior touring time, I would make the most of it. There is nothing in Whittier outside of the excellent boats tours.
