I agree it is too long for a 5 year old that will have little interest in scenery. If possible, split up?? For adults- it's a top tour choice in my opinion.

As a mother and a grandmother I would advise you to go and take the kids. They'll love it when they get to the icebergs. Like a car road trip you will need to take along toys, acitvity books and other things that will keep them busy. On the bright side, the boat will be big enough for them to move around in, so it won't be a "you have to sit in one seat for five hours" type of trip.

Is this tour significantly different than what you see on the cruise ship?

Extremely different from your cruise ship and grossly superior. A top tour choice in my opinion. Close up extended viewing and more time for the sail in.

The reference is for the add on tour with NCL. I don't know if any other line offers it?? It involves leaving Juneau several hours before the ship then rejoining the cruise ship directly after Tracy Arm. If you go on a boat tour out ot Juneau, you need an all day port time and it takes up most of it. Not ideal for a first timer. I have gone with Auk Nu but there are other excellent companies to consider.

Karen, thanks for your help. We are on Coral Princess and have over 12 hours in port. We are debating between the helicopter glacier trek, whale watching or the Tracy Arm tour. It is our first time visiting Alaska and who knows if we will ever make it back. We would love to see as much as possible each time we are in port. Is Tracy Arm the best of the three??

In my opinion, no, it isn't the best choice for a first timer. Superior would be in my opinion a combo booked glacier helicopter landing and whale watch with Orca Enterprises, makes excellent use of time.
