Just beginning to think about my Husband taking his 80 year old parents on a 7 day Alaskan cruise. His Father has moderate Alzheimer's. He is still fairly self-sufficient and would have two people to keep a close eye on him. Any thoughts on if this could work?
Frankly, I would hire someone to keep an eye on them. If this is going to be your "vacation" too, you will be limited in my opinion. Is your mother in law able to fully keep an eye on him?? Moderate Alzheimer's gets worse, are you looking at going this season??
Unfamiliar surroundings, depending on the person can result in significant problems. I would definately involve his MD in the decision.
I personally think he would find an Alaskan cruise to be a highlight in his later years. There is so much to see, whales, orcas, fishing boats at work hauling in Salmon and halibut. There are not a lot of people in Alaska, very little traffic and not much noise pollution. I think it would be an easy trip.
