Our first cruise is coming up in August, flying from California to Vancouver and sailing from there. We don't have passports but do have our birth certificates. My question is regarding my 17-year-old daughter. I read that photo ID is required, government issued (? not sure about that part). She doesn't have her driver's license. I was planning on getting her an ID card from the DMV, but I was told it would be mailed "within 60 days," so now I'm afraid it won't arrive by Aug. 5. Has anyone had any experience with photo ID and minors? Will they ask to see one for her in customs or will her birth certificate alone be enough?
Yes, she has a school ID. So you were able to use that and birth certificate with no problems? (I obviously need to make sure.) My travel agent is out of town on his own vacation right now, and his assistant not sure.
I'm in Vancouver . When ever I/we travel with our minor daughter into the States or Europe she can not travel WITHOUT picture I.D. We had a passport for her since she was 3months old. Not on ours but seperate because we all didn't always travel together. Also, under age children travelling with one adult must have a letter from the other parent giving permission to travel with the child. Up here in Canada you can get a rush passport in one week - costs an extra $30 CDN and has to be picked up rather than mailed out. Good luck, hope you enjoy our city.
