Default Booking late -excursion probs?

Would like to book an Alaskan cruise for September, but my concern is that the excursions we want will be sold out due to the late date.

Taking the kids...so excursions will be important (whale watching, helicopter/dogsledding, float plane or horseback riding) and I'd hate to book only to find that the things we really wanna do aren't available to us.

Anyone have any experience w/this?

Thanks!

You could always ask before booking. ??? What cruise line are you considering?

We're thinking about Princess....would really like to see Glacier Bay...is it easy to get that kind of info from the line prior to booking?

I'm sure 99% of excursions will be available to you at this point. Not everyone is part of the internet world and not everyone plans ahead.

I just booked Sapphire Princess last week for September 11 and there are still excursions left. We signed up for the Dog Sledding and their is plently of space left. They tell you how many spots are still available for each excursion.

We just booked 2 weeks ago to go on the Princess Coral 8/27-9/3. We were able to go online and reserve all the excursions we wanted. None were waitlisted. They do offer you the ability to do 120 days prior to your cruise, but even though we did later (<60 days) we did not run into any problems. It looks like they have plenty of choices and a high # of spaces.

We are cruising on the Coral Princess on 09/03 and just received the shore excursion book in the mail from Princess. We looked into a few excursions and still appears lots of availability.

Hey, thanks folks! After reading extensively about excursions I was a bit ambivalent about booking late....I'd read that some of the best excursions sell-out quickly so I became concerned.

Appreciate the responses!

For clairfication if you are looking at Glacier Dog sledding , that does NOT run in Sept. the camps close by end of August about 99% of the time, last year mid August. Of course the cart rides continue but are a very costly option at over $100pp using the ship excursions.

This is not late booking, one Alaska trip, I booked 3 weeks ahead and still got my desired tours.

Thx Karen....so no dogsledding for us.

Hafta go w/the whale watching w/Cap'n Larry , the heli/glacier combo and the Misty Fjords float plane w/Michelle at Island Wings (all contingent on availability). Time permitting I'll see what else we can squeeze in that's adventurous.....not really into doing the in-town souvenier thing.

Forgive my stoopidity, but what are "cart rides?"

You'll really enjoy the Island Wings excursion. Michelle is one of many excellent pilots in the area..........you're in for a treat. I went with Island Wings last September.....weather cleared up into a spectacular cloudless sky. Fantastic flight.

We just booked our excursions for our August 20 cruise on the Coral Princess. All the ship excursions that we wanted were available, except Mist Fjords. I booked a Misty Fjord flight with Island Wings, which has been highly recommended on message boards.
