I wore shorts and a sweatshirt everyday. I took a light jacket with a hood but only wore it twice. It was so hot in Ketchikan that I thought I was in the Bahamas It was really cloudy and windy when we were in Skagway. That is the only day I remember it being cool. It rained the morning that we were at Hubbard Glacier but was not really that bad because we went to the Viking Lounge and got great seats and just sat there the entire time with excellent views of the glacier due to the Capt. turning the ship back and forth so that you could see all sides of it. I am very hot natured so I am one of these that basically wears shorts all year long but I also live in the south. But there were alot of people wearing shorts on our cruise so just be comfortable.

I was there last week (7/17-24) & like the cool weather. I wore jeans every day & either short or long sleeved T shirts. We did a lot of boat/water excursions & definately needed jeans, long sleeves & a wind breaker. If you plan on staying ashore , shorts should be fine.

You need a wide range of attire, including knit hat and gloves with a lightweight lined jacket and layers.

Just returned from 12 day cruise and land tour on Coral Princess. I did wear shorts on some days. I also brought and wore a sweat shirt and a lined and hooded jacket. I also brought a water proof jacket and used it a number of times. I did not bring or need hats and gloves but I love cool weather. I thought the ship was actually kept a bit too warm so I wore shorts and tees inside the ship. Great trip.....you will love it.

Cruise Tour: July 19-29, 2005

Weather, very unpredicatable.

We wore shorts to view Hubbard Glacier as did alot of other people.

The coldest time was early morning in Denali - about 40's degrees, but it
warmed up quickly.

Coldest time was Icy Strait, it was foggy, rainy and windy.

btw. Celebrity cruise provided 2 umbrellas for us (found in the cabin), which we did use in Ketchikan (cost about $10-12 if we chose to keep it).

Back in June we were able to wear a pair of shorts on two separate days - pack a variety just in case!

For those still going to Alaska the "shorts" opportunity will be getting less and less. Warmest now is interior Alaska, so if doing a cruise, still take a wide range of attire, you'll need it.

We drove to Alaska July 3 - August 15, 2004. All we needed was jeans, tennis shoes, and a jacket (just a little bit heavier than a wind breaker) and we were fine. We also went on the all day ocean cruise and we were find. It was not warm enough for shorts.
