Default clothing for alaska

Cruising inside passage mid August--how cold does it get? What types of outdoor clothing do I need for glaciers etc.? For example, do I need a down jacket?

Dear Patsy,

Forget the down jacket......I recommend that you take a good man with you! It gets very cold!

You shouldn't need a down jacket. Wear layers so you can add or remove as you're on the go. Temps can change dramaticaly on an Alaskan cruise within minutes.
There were times where we could wear shorts and others where it got quite chilly, on the same day.

Layers and you do need a wide range of attire, including knit hat and gloves. Take a lightweight quick drying lined jacket. Mix and match what you have rather than going on a buying spree perhaps??

Just do lots of layers! When the wind comes up it can be pretty chilly fast. That's how it was in July - i can't imagine it would be all that much warmer in August.

enjoy!!!!!

We grab the wool blankets from the pool area and wrap up. Saves in packing heavy coats and sweaters!
