I'd choose the Helicopter/Glacier walk/Dog Sled tour offered by Coastal in Juneau that I am booking for my August 2006 cruise. I asked about cancellations because of weather, and they'll keep you on the helo.glacier walk if they have to cancel the dog sled because of weather. (the dogs are at a higher elevation)
Glacier dog sledding is over by the end of August, so won't be available in Sept. Last 3 years was closed by the 3 rd week of August, so make back up plans if going around that time frame. Flightseeing is the top tour choice in Alaska, my opinion only. This isn't the place to skimp, budget fully.
Just got back from Alaska we did the helicopter/glacier walk in Juneau and took the float plane out of Ketchican to Misty Fjords. There was 4 of us total and all of us said the float plane to Misty Fjords was our highlight of the trip even after the glacier walk. The scenery is just breath taking and when you land and can get out and walk on the planes floats and take in the sights and sounds it is awe inspiring.
8) Many thanks for your replies. Just got back 9-17-05 from RCI cruise to Alaska. In Ketchkan ,did the Misty Fjord tour with Michelle, Spectuclar, she is a wealth of information and has a great interchange with passengers. Did the shuttle in Juneau, to Mendenhall Glacier. Beautiful and walked most of the way to Nugget Falls. Skagway did the White Pass Railroad. Wonderful sights, as Karen 16 has said many times, one trip is just a minute sample of this glorious state.
