Default tipping tour guides

Do you tip the captain of your whale seeing tour ie. Capt Larry or the person flying the helicopter or the captain of your fishing boat? Just trying to get my ducks in a row...

I always tip. For information, Orca Enterprises has a tip jar. He sails with at least 1 ship naturalist. I always tip shuttle drivers and operators.

Captain Larry uses his tip money for his Orca and Humpback research. (That's what he told us) I did tip him $20 for my wife and I because we did see a number of whales and he was extremely informative with our questions. It is up to you on whether you wish to tip him or not.

He did not seem to watch if people tipped or not and was not in the least bit aggressive about it.

Otherwise, I will tip a guide if they answer questions, provide information or add to the tour or excursion. If they just drive the bus or take you from point A to B then I will not tip. They have to add to the experience in order to earn a tip. You have to decide what constitutes that.

Take care,
Mike

I disagree, I think shuttle bus drivers are deserving of at least $1pp for transporting you safely and timely. I am not looking for enterainment. For the tours, I tip in the $10-20 range, for flight, boat tours, Denali Park shuttle bus drivers etc. less for shorter or transportation.
