Haven't read any comments on Whitehorse, Beaver Creek, Fairbanks excursion compared to Denali. The cruise I am looking at is Holland America and I prefer to do the land portion first, cruising last. Which is
best choice for land? A Holland Am rep said the show in Beaver Creek
is not to be missed...but I can't imagine it would be any better than most of the tourist productions that are available elsewhere. Will appreciate any
information asap as I need to make the reservations soon!
Beaver Creek and Whitehorse are very limited if you do not have your own transportation. You are on a HAL cruisetour??? They will have tours available. As for Fairbanks, again a big spread out city with a car necessary for the most part. Cabs are available, but the HAL lodging may offer some shuttles??? Pioneer Park is worthwhile, so is the Fairbanks U botanical Garden , large animal research tour, museum. Ice Museum in downtown Fairbanks is excellent, so is the Public Lands museum.
Thank you, Karen16. The trip to Whitehorse and Beaver Creek would be one of the HAL excursions via train/bus....I really think that the Denali &
Tundra Wilderness sound more like what we want. We can use miles to fly into Anchorage and do the land portion first. I would like any and all suggestions you or anyone else might have...I have read several of your posts and written down the recommendations. Just didn't see anything about Beaver Cr or Whitehorse...thanks so much!!!
Are you at all open to going on your own??? Cruisetours are the most costly option and most limiting.
As an example- Denali Park, I never recommend the tour buses into Denali Park, only get 53 of the 90 miles in. Superior and 1/3 the cost are the shuttle buses. My min. recommended distance in is Fish Creek, mile 63.
The problem with the cruisetours that go to the Yukon, Beaver Creek, Whitehorse is very very long days entirely on buses. You also miss out on a significant part of a cruise.
Thank you, Karen...that is what I needed to know. The long bus trips are
not my idea of vacation, especially when a cruise ship awaits!!!
We are planning to go with friends on HAL in June. Have done an inside passage cruise some years ago, but didn't do land as we had planned a
Greek cruise for the same year & didn't have time for more than the cruise portion. One person in the group had leukemia and couldn't make the Greek trip, so we all cancelled and have yet to do that one.
I like this site, and appreciate the response and most especially having someone who is so knowledgeable answering my queries. It will be a must for future trips and will recommend it to my friends!
