Hi Susan. We will be aboard the Sapphire in about 3 weeks and will be cruising the Glacier Bay itinerary after our land tour. I did extensive research while planning our trip and decided that Glacier Bay would provide the more spectacular viewing. Initially, I really wanted to view Tracy's Arm, but had discovered that as georgous as it is you run a risk off cruising amongst too much ice and the ship is unable to navigate throughout. That discovered, we opted for Glacier Bay and I am confident that we (and perhaps you later) will be thrilled with the choice.
Over all Glacier Bay and College Fjords get my vote. BUT Seward is a definate worth while stop so try and include it if at all possible. Actually, add as many days as you can. Interior Alaska is just fantastic!!

Having done both itineraries in the opposite direction, I think that it's pretty much a toss-up. Glacier Bay and College Fjord do offer great scenery and wildlife, but Hubbard Glacier is not a bad alternative for those who must stare at large ice flows and Hoonah ("Icy Strait Point") provides a very interesting close-up on Alaska's salmon industry that the other itinerariy misses completely. On balance, it's pretty much a wash.
