Default Weigh-Ins???

We may take a helicopter tour or a float plane tour for the first time. Are there weigh-ins for both of these? How do they handle that? Not anxious to declare my weight!

I know that there are on helicopters. They charge two fares if you are over 250. I have seen them actually weigh in the helicopter passengers before they would let them board. I am not sure about float planes, I have seen no restrictions on these but there may be.

Haven't seen them actually weigh anyone, but they do make you put down your weight and sign it. This is for safety reasons. Five 250 pounders might well overload a small float plane and cause a crash. Weight and balance are very important considerations in small aircraft of all types.

Yes they can and do weight passengers on helicopters and the surcharge is usually 50% not double.

Float planes you have to state your weight, no surcharges usually.

Default weigh ins

My husband and I were in Juneau on May 22, 2006
They did not weigh us, but I had prepaid the 50% surcharge to Holland America. On the bus to the helicopter ride they went around and asked each passenger what their weight was. He said he would add 10 labs for gear to what we said we wieghed. I was honest and told him 300, so was another person. No scales, just be honest.
That Helicopter ride was the best thing we got to do the entire trip! More than worth the money we spent on it!

Guess you're right, Meggy, bite the bullet and have fun! On the bus did were they taking the weights by having you say them out loud, or in writing?

Just got back from an Alaska cruise. In Ketchikan we took a Float Plane trip and it was totally worth the money! Breathtaking! Anyhow, they asked our weights but did not weigh us. No one in our group was 250 pounds, so I don't know if they would charge extra or not! Whatever you have to do, just do it, you won't be sorry!

I am taking a float plane to Taku Glacier Lodge in Juneau and in reading the webpage, it states there is no extra charge for being overweight. However for the helicopter trip ito the glaciers, it states there is an extra charge for over 250.

Default weigh ins

You can say your wieght out loud, you can whister it in their ear, or you could write it down ahead of time and just hand it to them.

When we flew on a float plane in Anchorage they asked our weight. We told them what we weighed when we left home. They added a few pounds because he had never seen anyone lose weight on a cruise. We all had a good laugh.
