We are taking our 3 children (8, 6, and 4) on a Carnival cruise in August. Does anybody know anything about taking a boat tour of Saint Lazaria's island? Are the seas rough? Is it appropriate for kids? My older two studied sea birds this year in school and I think it would be cool to see some of them.
IF you want to get to St. Lazaria Island, you would be best to book an independent operator that goes there. Allen Marine runs the ship tours, and not all of them go there.
As for your kids??? Probably the 4 year old is too young. These are costly 3-4 hours tours. Frankly I wouldn't go with that age more than a couple hours with no way out. Only you know your child, if they can be content for this timeframe, or are they going to make everyone miserable???
You are on water, no guarantees on motion. Sitka has the potential to be more rough than Inside passage sailing. No way to predict. The smaller boats will have more movement and these are recommended for St. Lazaria in my opinion.
With 5 of you and an interest in seabirds, you can charter a small boat to get exactly what you want. Saint Lazaria is manificent - you can see photos and comments from our trip there 3 weeks ago towards the bottom of http://www.explorenorth.com/articles...006/page4.html
