Default Help - Port- Starboard - Does It really matter !

I am booked for Sept 18th. The Coral Priness from Whittier to Vancouver.
Looks like I am on the right side (Port) of the ship. Does it really matter?
Is there glaciers on both sides????

The right side is starboard and the left is port facing forward (towards bow). The preferred side would be port going south but you should be able to see glaciers from either side. If it were me and I could change to the port side, I would.

Since your ship goes to Glacier Bay and College Fjords, the glaciers are on the PORT side. If you are on the right side- starboard, be certain to be out on deck both days, early and plan on staying out. All the commentary and "stops" for both of these are on the way in, and all on the port side. You have only very distant views of glaciers during sailings and most people miss them. Bring proper attire- knit hat gloves, layers. You are going at the coldest timeframe, good rain gear a must, 2 pair of walking shoes.

IF you are doing any interior Alaska travel, you have some chance of northern lights. IF of interest, I highly recommend you DAILY check this site, and if nights are clear, meaning no cloud cover and clearly seeing stars- get out for a look. http://www.gi.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/predict.cgi

Easiest way to remember if you're on the starboard or port side is this:
LEFT has 4 letters in the word....so does PORT,( and of course the other side is starboard.)
You'll need to know on which side of the ship to look when you're told that something is coming into view, such as bald eagles, sea otters, etc.
My husband got the biggest kick out of our cruise in May to Alaska. When the naturalist would come on the PA system and say that she had just spotted a whale or something on the PORT side, you wouldn't believe the people that would jump up from the Lido deck dining area and start looking in the wrong direction. HA. This was her first cruise I think, and after the first day, she started saying...."Port side, left side of the ship", but people still looked in the wrong direction.
Just part of the fun in cruising!!!!!!
